Jr. NBA Program of the Month Winner: March

Since MVP360 RiseUp! Basketball started its program in 2012, they have provided free or low-cost basketball clinics, camps, and training to over 400 youth in North Philadelphia. Their USA Basketball certified program, that also works with the Junior Sixers, focuses on 3-on-3 basketball and skill development, which helps create what President & CEO Felix Agosto calls a “Basketball-4-Life” program. They offer scholarships to families who cannot afford the registration fee, as well as often give out basketballs rather than trophies for those who cannot afford their own basketballs.

MVP360 runs an instructional and developmental program where kids focus solely on skill development for six weeks. The players go through an initial skill assessment which allows them to be divided by skill level rather than grade. After focusing on a new specific skill each week, the program shifts into creating scrimmage situations where the coaches actively run the court to assist players on ball movement and offensive and defensive strategies. By the end of the six-week program, MVP360 hosts championship-type games so that players experience what it’s like to win.

Through MVP360’s philosophy, the emphasis is placed on participation, positive behavior, and values such as teamwork and character rather than wins and losses. The coaches are allowed to assist during the games and stop play at any time for “teaching moments”. Another unique aspect of the program is that parents are required to stay for all practices and games. This requirement allows them to build a true basketball community within MVP360.
