Chris Collins on Letting His Kids’ Coaches Coach

Northwestern coach on what he learned about sports parenting from his basketball star dad, Doug Collins.

Chris Collins’ father, Doug, was a collegiate, Olympic and pro basketball star as a player and later an NBA coach (now broadcaster). In that context, Chris says, “In my journey through youth sports, my parents let the coaches be the coaches. I go to my kids’ games and be a dad, not a coach. I support and cheer and encourage. I allow the coaches to be the coaches. this helps my kids enjoy the experience more.”
